HAVASUPAI FALLS, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — Some who booked reservations for one of the most challenging and beautiful hiking trails in Arizona are running into some problems.
The company that handles bookings for tourists to visit Havasupai Falls, Fasturtle Interactive LLC, sent a message on Tuesday saying that certain dates had been once again overbooked during this year’s tourism season. Those with campground reservations on an overbooked date will receive an email telling them to apply for a refund or try to move the dates. The deadline to make a decision is Friday.
For tourists with lodge reservations on an overbooked date, they will get an email on March 1 with cancellation or rebooking information. They will have until March 6 to decide. If they also have a pack mule with the reservation, it’ll be refunded or moved to a new date.
If customers don’t do either of the two options, the company may cancel the reservation. If that happens, it’ll be last-in/first-out. If the reservation is canceled, customers will receive a full refund.
If a customer doesn’t receive an email, their reservation isn’t on an overbooked date. Havasupai reservations were overbooked last year. The Havasupai Falls are on the Havasupai Reservation west of the Grand Canyon. The beauty of the waterfalls along Havasu Creek is now world-famous, thanks to social media, creating a high demand for permits.
The Havasupai Tribe said Fasturtle put its reservation booking system through a series of tests, but “the system did not work as tested” when it opened to online bookings earlier this month. While the canceling and rebooking process is underway, the tribe said it won’t accept any new reservations. Anyone with questions should email the tribe at support@havasupaireservations.com.
